Six Week Milestones

Image
Between weeks 5 and 6 Gavin's been busy ... Teased us with five hours of sleep, a feeding and being up for an hour and a half followed by five more hours of sleep! Since then ... we have had a few rough nights and a few nights where the first block of sleep is five hours, but we've yet to have a repeat performance. If we do get to that Gavin will have some happy (and rested parents!). He smiled at us for real! When we get him out of his crib in the morning we have been getting some real smiles if he isn't too hungry. It is the BEST! He holds his head up and moves it around when on our chest, and he can hold it up for awhile. He seems pretty pleased with himself about it, too! He has put himself to sleep for a few naps on his own in his Rock N Play and in his swing. Normally we have to hold him until he zonks out.  Saturday morning hanging out in Mom and Dad's bed and showing us that gummy smile! Gavin's sports memorabilia and gear collection started at o...

Five weeks

Image
Mommy had her check up at her OB/GYN's office and got this cute burp rag from Dr. S. The staff we saw every week for so long all loved meeting him and said he is sooo handsome! :) Since our last post we also watched Pope St. Francis get chosen,  celebrated Gavin's first St. Patrick's Day, filled out his first NCAA brackets and made it to week five.  We are still working on the digestion and sleeping after 2/3 a.m.- maybe by next week at six weeks we'll peak like some of the articles say and then time will be in our favor for making this a little easier for Mom and Dad!  We enjoyed a "play" date with some friends today. I say "play" because Gavin doesn't do much yet, haha. We did enjoy a short walk though and hung out. Was great to have some time with the other Mamas. Liam (6 months), Autumn (13 months) and Gavin (5 weeks) New photos!

A few notables

A few big boy things to note now that he is a month old! This week Gavin has taken a pacifier/soother, got his first bottle of breast milk so Daddy got to feed him, and he met his first friends his age! His first bottle at 4 weeks and two days. Daddy gets to feed him!  Mommy got almost 5 hours of sleep in a row later on when he got his second bottle! Yes, I realize it is crazy I am celebrating only five hours but after a month of two hour blocks of sleep or less this is big - now we just need Gavin to go 4 hours without needing to eat and we'll be doing even better!.  He took the bottles with no problems and nursed later on with no issues switching between the two. I have to figure out pumping so I don't create an oversupply now though, because I have too much milk already. Good problem to have I hear compared to not having enough.     Gavin likes Liam (six months) he was just upset about being put down! Katie and Autumn (almost 14 months) mee...

One Month Old!

Image
Gavin is one month old today! He is still doing well. We still have some fussy times after eating, but I'm hopeful it is getting better. Let's hope a more regular and longer night time sleeping schedule is next up on his agenda! He makes the cutest faces and the funniest noises. Busy little man is starting to focus on things around him, pretty fun!   First monthly photo shoot - a little sleepy from not resting much last night! Here's a new album to track his monthly pics. Here are pics of his nursery now that he is living in there and it has been personalized for him! Just waiting for a very special cross stitch from Great Grandma Macocha now to go over the glider. Door blessing from the yoga studio. Collage The flowers from my fabulous book club gals in Indy came in this adorable wagon. Grandma U bought us this little plant to put in it. Let's see if I can keep it alive! This was the cute container the flowers from my siblings ca...

Three weeks old

Image
We moved past our three week mark on Tuesday and doing well still! We had a good sleeping night last night. For us that means starting at 9:30 p.m.  he went three hours, then two hours then another two hours between feedings - steps in the right direction! He still has bouts of indigestion and makes quite the fuss. Usually within an half hour or hour he sorts himself out, but it stinks during those crying episodes because sometimes he just can't be calmed until he digests. Mom and Grandma U have enjoyed some outings to the stores to pick up a few things. He has done great! Timing is everything, and since he isn't on a real schedule yet that can be tricky. He makes the funniest faces and noises, especially when he is nursing. He changes daily and is getting more aware of his surroundings. We love our little man so much, thanks to everyone for checking in on us these first three weeks. Of course, a few more pics were posted in his album :) Featuring the onesie Mom ga...

First pediatrician appointment

Image
Gavin had his first visit to see the pediatrician on Wednesday when he was two weeks and one day old. He weighed in at - wait for it - 8 lb 3 oz! The doctor almost couldn't believe it given he was 6 lb 4 oz at birth. He only lost 4 oz and then by this weight check four days after birth he was back up to where he started. We couldn't believe he gained that much in such a short time, but we knew he was bigger because he is now filling out newborn outfits and his checks have a little plump to them. Our little peanut baby is already growing so fast as everyone said he would! He is shedding some of his skin so has dry patches that will go away soon, and I love the small marks on his eyebrows and forehead that they call "angel kisses", which will likely go away completely. He even has a reddish "stork bite" on the back of his neck, which also may go away. His cord fell off around day 10 or so and that looks good as well. The doctor suggested 3-5 minutes a day in...
