First pediatrician appointment
Gavin had his first visit to see the pediatrician on Wednesday when he was two weeks and one day old. He weighed in at - wait for it - 8 lb 3 oz! The doctor almost couldn't believe it given he was 6 lb 4 oz at birth. He only lost 4 oz and then by this weight check four days after birth he was back up to where he started. We couldn't believe he gained that much in such a short time, but we knew he was bigger because he is now filling out newborn outfits and his checks have a little plump to them. Our little peanut baby is already growing so fast as everyone said he would!
He is shedding some of his skin so has dry patches that will go away soon, and I love the small marks on his eyebrows and forehead that they call "angel kisses", which will likely go away completely. He even has a reddish "stork bite" on the back of his neck, which also may go away. His cord fell off around day 10 or so and that looks good as well. The doctor suggested 3-5 minutes a day in the sunlight for his Vitamin D, so we are working on that each day (Today we went out for a walk in the Baby Bjorn and he loved it cuddled up with his new knit blankie from his Grandma U since it was a bit brisk). The little guy is a picture of health (grateful and know not to be taken for granted!).
Gavin's Grandma Underwood made it here safe and sound and is enjoying her little Grandson. She came with gifts from lots of our Northern friends and family (again, we are so spoiled, we know!). Lots of wonderful, thoughtful things, thanks everyone! She is already "enjoying" sharing some of the late nights or early mornings with the squirmy guy. Super helpful for us :)
Joanne and I ventured out to a free class put on by one of the lactation consultants from the hospital. ABC/After Baby Comes is more like a free mom's group where you share any concerns or questions you have and hear what others are going through. They also do a weight check each time, and he weighed even more but had his clothes on. It was great to be in a room with about eight other mom's, many with similar mindsets as us, to hear of things that may come down the road. Susan, the consultant, is very knowledgeable and has awesome advice so far! We saw her the first day in the hospital so we knew she already helped us with Gavin's latch!
Gavin was the youngest and they ranged up to 5 months old. It is every other Thursday and you can continue going until your baby is walking, so it is definitely something to keep in mind once I'm by myself if I'm looking for somewhere to get out during my maternity leave or needing help with something. We learned a great new position to hold him in when he has his infamous tummy issues after eating - and so far it is pretty helpful! Again, I so appreciate all this hospital has to offer! Gavin did so great during the class that then Joanne and I were able to have lunch out before heading back home.
Mom and Dad left last Sunday to beat the most recent snow storm that was heading up north. A huge thank you for all the support and sharing the first few weeks with us. We miss and love you!
I've added a few more pictures to the end of his album if anyone needs a Gavin fix. Have a wonderful weekend!!!
