Our little man is a half of a year old. HALF OF A YEAR PEOPLE! I can't wrap my head around this at all. So instead I'm planning to document all he is up to lately to honor this milestone. Feel free to stop reading at any time or grab some coffee, put your feet up and enjoy!
- Gavin weighs 16 lbs 5 oz and is 27.5 inches long. Still 34% in weight and now 85% in height! Still tracking on his trend, so all is good. A clean bill of health from the doc!
- He is in 6 month clothing pretty much but still fits into some 3 month onesies and bottoms when he isn't in his cloth diapers.
- He started solids! Rice cereal at 5 1/2 months and then a week or so later, avocado, peas, sweet potato and butternut squash. He loves it! We knew he was ready because he was so into us eating and was opening his mouth when we were eating and holding him. We have made homemade baby food so far, and overall it is pretty easy.
- Several of you have witnessed this. Gavin has a trick! When he is fussing in the car, if you put on John Denver's, "Annie's Song", he stops. EVERY TIME! I put it on loop the other day and he was fuss as soon as it was over, then when it started again he stopped. It is magical. (Good job Daddy for "conditioning" this).
- About 5 1/2 months he had a fake cough that lasted for a few weeks. I think he likes the feeling of doing it. It is pretty funny and a lot of people commented on it, "is he faking coughing" "yes, yes he is." Around the same time he started blowing bubbles and making B and M sounds and what sounds like Dada.
- He still loves Sophie the giraffe but also loves to chew on straps and tags. He enjoys the strap of his paci instead of the actual paci most of the time! He likes Peek-A-Boo and is ticklish under his arms, on his back, on his feet and on the backs of his thighs. We get belly laughs when we kiss there or when Daddy tickles him with his facial hair, hysterical!
- He still likes his Bumbo. He enjoys sitting in there, chewing on the extra length of the strap and grabbing everything within arm's reach that he isn't supposed to grab! Although now he can sit up on his own for a bit, but he is quite wobbly still. He can push his upper body up while in tummy time or get his knees under him, but he hasn't combined the two yet to crawl. He can maneuver all over the floor though now and roll to reach toys.
- He is out of his swaddle and into the Zippadee Zip. This little piece of fabric is a miracle worker. It was a mom who invented it for her daughter when she was transitioning out of the swaddle. It still gives him the freedom to move around but some restriction instead of being completely free to flail. The kid loves to sleep on his side, and the other day we found him like this (see below). So. Stinkin. Cute! Although as I'm typing this he is sleeping on his stomach. Since sleeping in this for two weeks, he has slept without waking up until his morning feeding all but one night (I almost don't want to type this in case I jinx it!). Seriously though, spread the word, great company, great product!

| I'd say he likes being free to sleep however he wants now that he's free from the swaddle. |
- Yep, he is sleeping in his pack n play. He was sleeping so well and G&G H's and I couldn't figure out why. Since I was by myself that following week at home, and I was desperate for him to sleep without waking up during the night. I made it warmer in his room, but I think he either likes the softer mattress we put in his pack n play or likes being lower toward the ground. Who knows! We tried to put him down for a nap in the crib the other day but that ended up in him waking up three times in two hours, so for now the pack n play it is!
- We have a decent little schedule going on finally. Here's an idea of what Gavin's day looks like at 6 months: He gets up around 5:30 a.m. for an early morning nursing session. I usually can get him back to sleep within a half hour if he doesn't fall back asleep nursing. He'll sleep until somewhere between 6:45-7:15 a.m. He eats breakfast at 7:45 a.m. then nurses three hours after his first feeding. He naps around 9:30 a.m. for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, gets up for a lunch nursing session, naps again around 1:30-2 p.m., and sleeps hopefully for another 1 1/2 to 2 hours. He'll nurse either before or after that nap, then nurses again sometime before dinner at 6:30 p.m. Bedtime wipe down or bath starts at 7:30 followed by a nursing session at 7:45 p.m. and then if all goes well he is sleeping by 8 p.m. with a dream feed at 9:45 p.m. Let's hope it sticks like this even after his 6 month shots.
- Daddy is gone for another work trip in San Diego for two weeks. We already miss this guy! Glad Auntie Caitlin is coming next Tuesday for a visit to break it up! Gavin is such a little Stefan. He has his eyes exactly, most people say he looks like him, he is a "warm body", and he already has clammy feet (i just know they are going to be smelly when he is older!). He actually seems to stick out his tongue when concentrating just like Dad! And of course Mommy is their favorite person ;) haha - since I'm writing this I can say whatever I'd like, right?
