19 months and a Calgary trip to remember

Gavin's 19 month milestone is sure one to remember! We arrived in Calgary last weekend to perfect weather - blue skies with no clouds in sight, mid 70 degree temps and lots of green trees in the forefront of the mountain backdrop. We made sure to take advantage and got out to the mountains to walk around and test out our new (thanks Gma for the great find!) baby backpack.

Two days later the city was nailed by a nasty unseasonable winter storm - snow and all. In early Septemeber! It was heavy and wet snow that bore down on the trees and broke branch after branch. This led to power outages and a hurricane-like scene across the whole city. We only lost power for six hours thankfully and made our way to the mall to wait out the time, plus a gas fireplace kept us warm in the house. Some are still without power and the trees are still littering every sidewalk. It is sure a trip we won't soon forget!

We have enjoyed lots of family time and some time with our good friends here. We've gone out and enjoyed daily adventures around town and all let Gavin entertain us (who insisted on being outside despite the weather!). We were so glad Grandpa Underwood came for five days all the way from Ontario to meet Gavin. So special!

We have plans to enjoy our last day then pack everything up for an early flight out on Sunday.

When we get home we have a few days then Andrew comes before Gavin, Andrew and I make our way to MI and Stefan travels to AUS for a long work trip. What a whirlwind month!

Gavin's doing wonderfully and adds words to his vocabulary daily. He runs and "reads" and laughs and plays and explores; it really is thrilling to watch. He is not yet a fan of daycare at all, but he just has two days next week before he gets a long break. He also has climbed out of his crib, twice! So we had to get creative with his sleeping arrangements since he is so not ready for a bed.

Hope everyone enjoys the end of summer. I'm looking forward to a cool fall this year for a change!
Canada photos soon!
