Four Months and a surprise!

What is Gavin up to at four months old? Well ...
- The kid has a tooth! SURPRISE! A little bit has actually come through the gum on the bottom front left (his left) side. No picture because turns out he doesn't let me look in his mouth easily, but you'll have to trust me that you can see white. This babe has been drooling and putting everything in his mouth for awhile now, and one day he had a low fever and a runny nose, so we shouldn't really be surprised. We thought it was common to get teeth around six months, but now that it has broke the surface I'd think this one would come up (but what do I know?).
- He is happy most of the time, super smiley, laughs out loud and an all around little joy (obviously still some rough patches each day but usually short lived)!
- His sleep cues (white noise, swaddle, paci) have become noticeable to him and he is pretty quick to get to nap with those trusty tools (Thank you Dr. Harvey Karp and the Happiest Sleeper on the Block)!
- The little man's sleep has gotten better. At 13 weeks he stopped needing the middle of the night feeding (amen!). He can make it until his morning feeding but often wakes up once or a few times and needs a paci or a reswaddle. He normally goes back to sleep quickly; the trick is not getting him out of the crib! Sometimes he does go back to sleep on his own so that is moving in the right direction, too. We are trying to get a consistent bedtime around 8:30 p.m. I still dream feed him at 10:30 p.m. then he is in the habit of eating again at around 5:15ish a.m. He'll go back down until about 7:15 a.m.
- The indigestion seems to be normal for an infant now, just the occasional spit up, etc. It seems his digestive system finally got mature enough to handle being here! I'm still off dairy though and am just starting to add it in very slowly to see how he does.
- He is much easier to take out and about. He likes being in his Bjorne to run errands and if you time it after he is rested and feed he is awesome! He'll grocery shop with me (using the Bjorne saves room for food in the cart instead of his carrier!), runs errands, do housework with me in the Bjorne and hangs out at beach volleyball with us on Thursdays. He does well in the car but sometimes he cries until he falls asleep if it is time for a nap.
- He can hold toys, reach for them and bring them up to his mouth. He can also take out his paci and sometimes even put it back in. The other day on his playmat, he had one of the toys that hangs down between his feet and he pulled it down toward, so funny to watch him discover things!
- He's very interactive - looks toward noises, stops to listen when he hears you come into his room, smiles and laughs with you!
- I love when he makes his own little noises when we are singing to him like he wants to sing along or how he experiments with his mouth and the noises he can make like he is trying to talk just like you!
- He loves to sit in his stroller now instead of be in his infant carrier and walks are engaging now instead of nap time.
- He enjoys his bath time and splashes and hangs out!
- His favorite toys are Sophie the giraffe (thanks Chels!) and this book with animal tails sticking out. See the album for pics of both (I can't remember who bought that for him, fail!).
