The current thorn in my side

Well we made it through one hurricane season last year and we should have known we wouldn't get lucky two years in a row. To mark my one year anniversary of moving to Florida (which is Labor Day Weekend) I got the gift of preparing for Hurricane Isaac. Stefan is on a work trip in San Antonio, although he would actually prefer to be here to help us, so Andrew and I are doing our best to be as prepared as possible and make the right decisions on where to go and what to do come tomorrow.

It really is amazing all the things you need to think about to prepare for a hurricane, even though you don't know exactly where it will hit and if you will flood, lose power or have home damage. We think it will start raining today (Monday) and the worst will come early Wednesday morning.

While Andrew had to work on Sunday I got groceries, batteries and few other essentials then spent the next five hours putting up window coverings. My friend Natalie's husband is deployed so we made a pact to do both houses. We had no idea that starting at 4 p.m. wouldn't be early enough. Her house wasn't too bad once we got the hang of it. We wrapped that up in just under two hours. We made our way the easy five minutes down the road, and had we known what was coming we probably would have just hidden in her newly dark house instead.

These look easy enough, right? The top two holes have screws that stick out to hang the canvas on then you put screws into little holes that are inland around all the windows. On about two of the 13 areas on this house it was that easy. For the rest, the two major problems were 1) either the vinyl shrunk some or the canvas didn't fit exactly right for the hole in the canvas to match up with the holes in the wall and 2) the front shutters are about 1/2 inch too close to the holes so it is much harder to get it all secured. Natalie and I were able to get most of them up, even after it got dark, and Andrew helped me secure them a little further this morning on the ones we just ran out of steam on being able to pull and stretch. Overall it was close to four hours of work. I guess better safe than sorry but man this is a lot - and we still have to take them down!

Right now we aren't too sure of the plan, but we'll pray we make the right decision once we see more what happens as the storm progresses toward the gulf coast. Even if it hits west of us, they expect a lot of rain and wind because the storm is so big. We'll try to post Facebook updates, but if we lose power we'll keep our phones off to converse battery power. We'll be sure to update as soon as we can.

One thing I did remember was my next batch of shots were scheduled to arrive Wednesday, so I luckily thought to change the delivery date and on Saturday got this box full o' fun. Yep, 90 days worth of injections delivered right to my door, lucky girl!

Alright Isaac, let's get this over with.
