Welcome!

Welcome to little piece of the virtual world! Since we have you, our beloved family and friends, all over the place, we started this blog to post updates so everyone could stay in touch with what is happening in our ever-crazy adventures. These adventures you will hear about may not be as exotic as they have been in the past, however, because this time there will be one more, oh you know, "small" thing we have to consider ... a baby!

I bought this onesie earlier this year to have on hand to give to Stefan as a gift when we found out - he loves it!

Yep there will be a little Underwood gracing us with his/her presence in February 2013 (or as Stefan likes to say a little "Underpants"). This blog will allow you to share in the joys and woes of our first pregnancy and then it will likely provide you with entertainment as we take on that one huge adventure we haven't yet faced - parenting!

Here's a little insight into the month of June when this all started. We had an amazing month that started off with a trek out to Lake Tahoe for Stefan's 100-mile TNT Century Ride. We wouldn't know until later that month that we had come back with more than just great memories and a medal around Stefan's neck. We celebrated Stefan's birthday once we got home then prepared for our 5-year anniversary trip to Italy.

After resting up from the long travel day to start off the trip and being up the whole next day, I still didn't feel quite normal and low and behold we got a positive test result. We found out we were expecting a little one in the Italian Riviera just outside of Cinque Terra in a modern, yet quaint hotel that we loved with the most amazing restaurant. It was the perfect setting and meant we had another week to let the news soak in before we went back home. I was even a good sport about Stefan ordering and sampling lots of wine during our trip so at least one of us experienced that part of the culture. Servers were actually shocked when I wasn't ordering wine at most meals and then when we explained in Italian why I wasn't drinking (we learned how to say pregnant) many of them insisted wine was good for a growing baby. Even with their "expertise" on the matter - I still gently declined. Although the trip consisted of nap times and air conditioning during the afternoons to hide from the mobs of tourists, heat, sun and walking, we had a perfect trip spending time with each other and experiencing everything we wanted to while we were there.

Some of you know we originally choose Italy as our destination to scout out a retreat center for retreat number two, and we found a great location! But, with our next adventure already set for us we are putting that on the back burner for now and may revisit it in the future. Our to-do list just got a lot longer with some other tasks!

We returned home to wrap up our amazing month with my birthday and calling our parents and siblings to share the news. Now we are delighted to share our news with all of our family and friends! Next up ... the first trimester update.
