Appointments anyone?

This week was the week for appointments I guess. On Monday we had our consult with the pediatrician we wanted to use. She is a huge advocate for breastfeeding, and we liked most of what she had to say. I found out today that one of the nurse practitioners at our OB/GYN office used her and her kids loved her! She has gotten great reviews, and I think we'll see eye to eye on most things. The office is right in Gulf Breeze and has lots of other conveniences. So, another thing is crossed off the list. We have our pediatrician!

The next evening, Tuesday, I set out for my first acupuncture appointment. I've been thinking about going for years and finally figured what the heck since I was trying everything to get my blood pressure back in check. The acupuncturist is great! She is so sweet and has a great presence about her. What I do know about acupuncture from my yoga trainings and research is very little, but I do find it very interesting. I'll be seeing her again next week and then I'm not sure if I can get there again before the baby arrives or not. She is cutting her evening hours back because she is 7 1/2 months pregnant, but at least I know her now and can utilize it as needed after our baby is here and she is back from having hers.

This morning we had our weekly checkup. My weight was the same as last week, so I'm still under my goal of gaining 30 lbs, and I've heard sometimes you stay pretty steady for the last little bit. That is funny to me because I've been really hungry and eating kind of a lot the last week. Guess the baby needs it. The really interesting thing at my appointment this morning was my blood pressure was completely normal - 120/72 (coincidence ?). I have kept up my meditation every morning, am using some of my breathing exercises and walking, but Tuesday night keeps coming back to my mind. Hmm!

Today is the day I switch from once a day injections of Lovenox to twice a day Heparin. This way if I go into labor early in the next few weeks it will only be in my system for 12 hours instead of 24. It is safer to not have an anti-coagulatent in my blood when I deliver. Of course I had trouble getting the prescription filled with my insurance so I don't have the shots quite yet. We're hoping they arrive Saturday then the fun gets doubled every day - I can feel your jealousy from afar!

On a lighter, fun note - I am finally over my aversion to COFFEE! Michelle, my friend from Colorado Springs, and her husband were in town and we had a great dinner on the beach before they went back to winter. Michelle and I did all of our yoga training together and she let me take her to Costa Rica on my yoga retreat. At dinner I had a crazy idea I'd order some decaf coffee with dinner and I really enjoyed it. This is huge since from about week 7 I have had a complete aversion to tasting and pretty much even smelling coffee. To celebrate further, I stopped by Starbucks on my way home from the doctor's appointment today. Woo hoo!
