One more appointment down

Yesterday afternoon we had our 38 week appointment a few days early (Nine and 1/2 months pregnant!). I was a bit flustered from working morning, waiting at the appointment, needing to get back to work and a few other things. So again, my blood pressure was higher, but we are just going to hang out and try to stay calm since we are so close now. All went well on the non-stress test for the baby and the other monitor showed some contractions! Nothing too regular or strong quite yet. The good news is I am now 3 cm dilated, 80% effaced (or thinned out) and the baby's head is at station -1 (the higher the positive number the lower it gets in the birth canal) meaning this body is gearing up! I am somewhat uncomfortable at this point with pressure in the pelvis area and some cramps throughout the day, but nothing too crazy.

The plan now is to head in Monday morning to do what they call sweeping the membranes. Lovely huh? It only takes about 30 seconds or so but is probably going to be about as painful as it sounds. I'm sure some of you have experienced this. The idea is it triggers your body to start making the hormones needed to go into labor. We are doing this so I can stop taking my Heparin on Sunday evening. This way I'm off the meds before we go in to deliver.

Mom and Dad head down this weekend and started their road trip today! We'll be seeing them tomorrow night to hopefully enjoy a relaxing weekend before the baby joins us next week. We should be celebrating Valentine's Day and our 6th wedding anniversary with a newborn next week :)
Please send prayers and well wishes down to Florida for a safe delivery and healthy baby!
