Patience ...
We enjoyed a pretty chill weekend and welcomed Mom and Dad Harte back to Florida. I'm excited to have them here! A few little projects got wrapped up, and we enjoyed a nice dinner out on Sunday evening since we'll be hanging out in the house for most of the rest of their visit.
This morning the doctor's appointment went well. The "sweeping" was quick as she said it would be, and it was pretty uncomfortable. I just used my yoga breathing and got that out of the way. She said it went really well. I'm still 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced but she could tell even with the same number I had progressed further than last week.
Friday was my last day of work and this morning was officially the first day of my maternity leave (I'm grateful to have the opportunity to be off until May 6!!!). We decided last week after my appointment that if I didn't go into labor on my own today after the membranes were stripped that I would go in this evening to induce. My doctor recommended not going back to work after the appointment since we weren't sure how I would feel. I took my last Heparin shot on Sunday evening, so now I'm off the blood thinner until after the baby when I'll be taking it during my recovery for about a month (back to the easier Lovenox). When I left the appointment Dr. Schneider said with a laugh, "I hope you have a miserable day, because that means it is working!"
Today after the appointment mom, dad and I went for a walk. I enjoyed a long shower, lunch and a short nap since I hadn't slept too much the night before. I've had some cramps throughout the day and felt my first contractions within the first hour after leaving the doctor's. Nothing has been consistent or strong enough yet to go in on my own. I've been working this evening on some stretching and hip opener poses (the ones I can still do with this big 'ol belly!). The doc is hoping that by the time we do go in I'll just need to be augmented with Pitocin to get the contractions regular and not fully induced with it. She did send me a text to check on me later today asking if I hated her yet. I said unfortunately, no, not yet, I was still not too uncomfortable.
Stefan should be home in a few, so now off to make dinner then we'll head in late tonight. By midnight I should be all settled and we'll get things started. Then we wait and see how long it takes on Tuesday. Hopefully we'll have a baby by the end of Feb. 12 and we can email and post an update on here. I'm just trying to stay calm knowing we will finally get to meet our baby! My mantra for this evening - Patience!

Stripping the membranes got things moving immediately for me...hope it does that same for you! Thinking of you - hang in there!
ReplyDeleteDear Stefan and Mallory,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the birth of Gavin. Proud Grandma Joanne sent news of the new little Underwood last evening.
I am so happy for all of you. Enjoy this magical time as two become three.
