9 week appointment and diaper mental light bulb

We didn't have a repeat performance of sleep Tuesday night but he did go for just over six hours (then got up two more times though). We kept him awake after his 7 p.m. feeding, which was kind of hard, and that helped him fall into a deep sleep after his 9 p.m. feeding. Then Wednesday night, no good, only three and a half hours max at a time. Hmmm - maybe some regularity will come soon.

At his appointment Dr. Klein said he looked like a perfectly healthy little man! He did great and was calm and playful - up until his shots of course. It is sad to see him turn bright red, hold his breath then let our a billowing shriek followed by real tears (they just started coming in!) but we know it is for his own good. With the modifications we made to his vaccination schedule, he will get these shots again at 4 and 6 months then these will be done before we start the next set. We were grateful he wasn't really affected this time around (except maybe the short bouts of sleep that night). No fever, not overly fussy and still our smiling munchkin!

He weighs 12 lbs even and is 23 inches long (birth weight again was 6 lbs 4 oz and he was 19 inches long). They want babies to double birth rate by six months - um - I think we'll be there by 3 months! :)

I had a light bulb moment regarding the cloth diapers last week. They all were leaking but seemed to be fitting him better. One of the mom's at the group asked what kind of detergent I use, and I explained I made it myself from a recipe from another cloth diapering mom. As I said that I thought about the soap I used in the detergent because that was the one ingredient that differed from the girl who recommended it to me. I mentioned this to my friend, and she said see if the soap I used had olive oil in it because that kind of oil will clog up the pores in the diapers/liners making them repel liquid.

Sure enough Dr. Bronnor's soap has olive oil in it - ugh! We won't be using that detergent anymore (too bad because so cheap per load!) and bought a new kind that is recommended. Stefan and I spent some time on Sunday stripping the diapers to get them back to a working state. It was a long process of boiling the liners and hand scrubbing the diapers in the tub. But, they are working perfectly this week! We are hoping with the new detergent and using slightly less than recommended that we won't need to strip the diapers very often. I've read once you figure out the process for your washing machine, your water and the detergent you use that you shouldn't really need to strip them. If they start leaking again we'll reevaluate, but I'm happy to say they are doing the trick and when they don't leak all the time we love them! We may even go back to putting him in these at night, because certain liners hold a lot!

Hanging out with Daddy before bed on his 9 week birthday.
