The latest

Gavin is 11 weeks old - almost out of his "fourth trimester" a lot of people say. He is so much more interactive each week. We'll have to post next week on everything that is going on with our 12 week-almost 3 month old! Last Thursday at the last Mom's group I can attend during the week, he weighed 13 lbs with his clothes on - so we think he is just under 13 lbs. He'll have doubled his birth weight pretty much (they want that to happen by 6 months, we are a little early!).

Other new things over here - he had a clogged tear duct on his left side early last week. Of course I called the pediatrician because I wasn't sure what was going on with it constantly watering and with all the gunk/puss that built up when he slept. She said to massage it throughout the next two days and she knew the trick because by then it was gone.

He has started moving some in his crib! He is still swaddled but he some how manages to get himself so he isn't facing the same direction as when we put him down. It isn't every night but more and more this is happening.

We've got a plan for night time now and he is doing okay with sleeping early in the evening, but the early mornings are still tough. I really like Dr. Harvey Karp, a pediatrician who talks about the five Ss. After a specifically bad night of sleep I broke down and bought his book on sleep on my Kindle then proceeded to read the first several chapters right away. It gave us a few ideas that we have now implemented. We have turned up his white noise some, put curtains in his room to block the street light and early morning sun, and I have implemented a dream sleep where I wake up to feed him around 11 or 12 in his sleep. That gets us until about 4 a.m. If he goes down by 9:30 normally then this is technically 6 1/2 hours, but I have to be up during that time to feed him. Stefan has been awesome and many nights does the 4 a.m. feeding with a bottle of pumped milk. This saves me because after he eats at 4 he has been up within the next hour and a half the last several days and needs to be soothed back to sleep. Then another hour or so later he gets up to eat. He can self sooth and get back to sleep earlier in the night but it is something about those early mornings! I think we are heading in the right direction though. He won't sleep in his crib during the day for more than 20 minutes, thank goodness for that swing! Hopefully we aren't creating bad habits!

I'm starting to log in for work this Wednesday but will still have Gavin then officially start back to work on Monday with our nanny coming full time. I'm having a hard time with it even though I'll be here and will get to see him throughout the day. I think having someone else primarily watch him and not being able to just hang out with him all day will be a big adjustment. Hopefully once it gets started and I'm in a routine it will be okay. I have one week with the nanny then we head to MI for Gavin's baptism and Mal's cousin's wedding, then the nanny will be here every week. The trip will be interesting, flying with a 3 month old, but people do it all the time so fingers crossed it goes well (I'm already thinking about the packing, ugh!).

I have to thank my dear friend, Katie, for the sweet Meet and Greet for Gavin at the yoga studio. There were yummy snacks, home made cupcakes, fresh flowers from Katie, Kaylen and Cara, and the best part was the hand scrub she made then had everyone bring some thing to add to it. One added some lavender oil to help with the stress of being a new mommy, one added some lip gloss to remember to take care of myself, one put in some "sleep dust", and the others added stones with words like "joy" and "patience" on them. We each went home with a mason jar full - how awesome! They each also filled out a little card with an intention for Gavin so I could put them in his door blessing. The positive energy was amazing, and of course I was moved to tears at one point. I got a gift certificate for some yoga classes and a massage, too! The massage was the other weekend and was AMAZING. I truly felt myself let got and just be pampered. I'm so grateful for the beautiful women in my life that our sweet little yoga studio has brought me.
