Light The Night

For the last few years I have fundraised and attended the Light The Night Walk (LTN), a fundraiser for the organization I work for, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).

Of course you all know this mission is close to home: working toward finding a cure for blood cancers. Between Team In Training and LTN over the years you have all helped Stefan and I raise over $10,000! AMAZING - THANK YOU!

All of our efforts and donations are making a difference on the research home front. We have invested in more than $1 billion in research so far!

LLS is truly changing the landscape of blood cancer. Recently an important gene mutation was identified in an adult Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) patient and in a pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL - the kind Matt had). This mutation is already known to be present in solid tumors and is treatable. This means there is a potential for new therapy for patients with AML, which hasn't had a change in its standard of care for over 30 years.

And, LLS is on the cutting edge of research ... this is so innovative. Dr. Carl June has found a way to use the HIV virus to introduce a gene into the T-cells that basically makes them "leukemia killers". They have seen that one of these modified T-cells can kill about 1,000 tumor cells!

I'll be attending the LTN Walk in Mobile this fall and hopefully a small one in Pensacola (we are working to get one here this year!). I'm serving as a volunteer on logistics committees for both events as well since this is outside of my position with the organization. If you would like to contribute, you may check out my fundraising page. Unlike our TNT goals which have been quite lofty, this time I'm shooting for just $250, so even $5 will help!

If you'd like to learn more about LLS, I encourage you to visit our "Why Give to LLS" and our "Financials" pages so you can trust your support is being invested wisely. Thanks for your consideration!
