Little Underwood, Big Harte

Besides a few windy days, some scattered rain showers and one tornado warning Hurricane Isaac just barely missed up. The beaches around here got some slight flooding and from what we heard the waves were awe inspiring. By the time I was done with work it was raining and the beach close by was closed to spectators so we couldn't get out there to see it. The weekend before it looked like the storm may hit us directly, hence the window coverings  nightmare ! Of course we feel for those in Louisiana who got hit again the same time as Hurricane Katrina hit. Praying for their safety and a smooth recovering from the flooding. Let's hope for a quiet hurricane season for the rest of the year. This blip in our week didn't even mess with my parent's travel plans - yippee! They flew out Wednesday morning from MI and ended up in Pensacola ahead of time on an earlier flight that evening - luggage and all! Well we made it through one hurricane season last year and we should have known we wouldn't get lucky two years in a row. To mark my one year anniversary of moving to Florida (which is Labor Day Weekend) I got the gift of preparing for Hurricane Isaac. Stefan is on a work trip in San Antonio, although he would actually prefer to be here to help us, so Andrew and I are doing our best to be as prepared as possible and make the right decisions on where to go and what to do come tomorrow. It really is amazing all the things you need to think about to prepare for a hurricane, even though you don't know exactly where it will hit and if you will flood, lose power or have home damage. We think it will start raining today (Monday) and the worst will come early Wednesday morning. While Andrew had to work on Sunday I got groceries, batteries and few other essentials then spent the next five hours putting up window coverings. Last Thursday was our third appointment at 13 weeks and I never did post about it. Not much went on really and we were just excited to hear everything was going well so we could share the news with all of you! What did happen was we waited forever for our Dr. to arrive. She was running late from a meeting. Instead of having us wait in the lobby with a TV and less AC blasting, we were put into our room to endure the next - oh, 45 minutes. Starting with our next appointment we get to see her in the Gulf Breeze office instead of the one in Pensacola which is less busy and a lot closer, so hopefully this doesn't happen again! We waited a long time on our first two appointments there as well. She eventually showed up and right away checked for the heartbeat. It was in the 160s - normal and strong! It was definitely strange knowing that was coming from inside of me, but it was pretty amazing. She did request I do a 24-hour urine collection so we would have those levels as a baseline ...

It's been the most fun sharing our news and the start of the blog with everyone and hearing how excited people are to be able to stay up-to-date on our pregnancy journey. We've also just LOVED getting everyone's well wishes in emails, calls and texts. LENGTH WARNING: Last post and this post are catching you up and will serve as a memory for us in the future, so we apologize they are a little long. Once we got home and settled from our European adventures we hunkered down while I fought daily fatigue, a decent amount of nausea, a few food aversions and a heightened sense of smell that often left me holding my noise and running away from its source. Our first doctor's appointment was scheduled for 8 1/2 weeks and it seemed like forever away. One huge blessing is working from home where I don't have to get ready or act "normal". Stefan and Andrew helped out with some cleaning, cooking and errands while I really took it down a notch. I normally have a hard time resting and relaxing and not accomplishing much in a day, so my July was a bit different. The first appointment was great for the most part. Welcome to little piece of the virtual world! Since we have you, our beloved family and friends, all over the place, we started this blog to post updates so everyone could stay in touch with what is happening in our ever-crazy adventures. These adventures you will hear about may not be as exotic as they have been in the past, however, because this time there will be one more, oh you know, "small" thing we have to consider ... a baby! I bought this onesie earlier this year to have on hand to give to Stefan as a gift when we found out - he loves it! Yep there will be a little Underwood gracing us with his/her presence in February 2013 (or as Stefan likes to say a little "Underpants"). This blog will allow you to share in the joys and woes of our first pregnancy and then it will likely provide you with entertainment as we take on that one huge adventure we haven't yet faced - parenting!
