Beach baby!

Image
Gavin had his first day at the beach, and it went well! It was the first time we ever went seeking out a spot by shade! It worked perfectly actually. We set up on the picnic tables under the Juana's bar near a volleyball court. We all got to play and a friend's parents loved watching Gavin for a bit! We had a wonderful Memorial Weekend hanging out with each other and with friends at the beach and at pools (gotta love FL for that!). Now we prepare for Daddy to leave on a trip for a friend's wedding in St. Louis followed by a business trip to San Diego. Just Mom and Gav for 10 days (more importantly 9 nights!). To be continued ... This picture makes me so happy :) Family pic from the day - in the shade of course. Look at this adorable hat though! (Gavin's not Stefan's!) First Trip - Check!

Image
We made it to MI and back! We loved seeing everyone and miss you already! Gavin still did pretty great flying. On the way there he slept the whole way for both flights, and on the way home he did fuss a bit more, but not tons. It sure is a lot different traveling with an infant though. Whew.  We had a great trip overall seeing tons of family and friends. Everyone said how adorable he was and how great of a baby he is - and of course we had to agree :) The big downside to the trip was Mallory getting mastitis on Friday evening. It came on quickly after dinner with a temperature starting at 99.3 and moving up to 101.2 within an hour and a half. With a hard spot in the right breast and overall flu like symptoms (chills, goosebumps, fever, headache), our lactation consultant in FL suggested seeing someone that evening because it can get pretty bad if you don't get it treated right away. We went to the ER that evening since everything else was closed, and the diagnosis was c...

Three Months!

Image
Three Months! Gavin is three months old! My goodness he's had lots of experiences since our last post just the other day. He went on his first flights and slept for both of them the entire time (angel baby!), he met lots of his family and friends, he was baptized, and he rolled over on his own from front to back three times!!! He is a sweet, smiling baby. He is quite interactive and when holding him his little legs move so much like he is already running!  He is forming somewhat of a schedule. He takes a longer nap in the morning and then a few 45 minute ones throughout the day. He is usually up about an hour and 15 mins after eating then is ready for a snooze. At night time he gets a feeding around 10 p.m. and a midnight dream feed. The goal is to get him to 6 a.m. after that and sometimes we get there or close to it. If he stays swaddled, naps more during the day than the evening and eats well during the day he sleeps better. We are hoping we are on ...

12 weeks!

Image
Gavin has made it out of his "fourth trimester" and is twelve weeks today! He'll be 3 months this Sunday, so I plan to post more then about his latest developments. We will also be in Michigan celebrating his baptism and my first Mother's Day! Then next weekend he gets to meet some of his extended family at cousin Chandler's wedding. Expect tons of photos of Gavin meeting lots of family and friends and experiencing his first flight - eeks! 11 weeks and all smiles! Happy Anniversary to both Grandma and Grandpas! G&G U's was last week and today is G&G Harte's. What amazing examples of marriage, love and family. We love you!!! My first week is going well so far although it is hard to concentrate sometimes when you are so tired - something my other parent friends say you get used to -- we will see. So glad I get to be here and see the little guy and have time nursing him every day. The new position has lots for me to learn, so I'll be taki...

The latest

Image
Gavin is 11 weeks old - almost out of his "fourth trimester" a lot of people say. He is so much more interactive each week. We'll have to post next week on everything that is going on with our 12 week-almost 3 month old! Last Thursday at the last Mom's group I can attend during the week, he weighed 13 lbs with his clothes on - so we think he is just under 13 lbs. He'll have doubled his birth weight pretty much (they want that to happen by 6 months, we are a little early!). Other new things over here - he had a clogged tear duct on his left side early last week. Of course I called the pediatrician because I wasn't sure what was going on with it constantly watering and with all the gunk/puss that built up when he slept. She said to massage it throughout the next two days and she knew the trick because by then it was gone. He has started moving some in his crib! He is still swaddled but he some how manages to get himself so he isn't facing the same direct...

Bath Time Fun

A few pictures from bath time last night in the link below! Also in the album is a picture of Stefan reading to Gavin from his cousin Iain's second published book that just came out. The book is about Iain's grandmother (Stefan's Great Auntie Bette) and has stories about his Grandpa Nicolson, too. What great family history captured in this book - congrats to Iain! As I write this he is so "chatty" this morning on his play mat interacting with his toys and making lots of fun noises - very entertaining little man! Check out his new album>>

9 week appointment and diaper mental light bulb

Image
We didn't have a repeat performance of sleep Tuesday night but he did go for just over six hours (then got up two more times though). We kept him awake after his 7 p.m. feeding, which was kind of hard, and that helped him fall into a deep sleep after his 9 p.m. feeding. Then Wednesday night, no good, only three and a half hours max at a time. Hmmm - maybe some regularity will come soon. At his appointment Dr. Klein said he looked like a perfectly healthy little man! He did great and was calm and playful - up until his shots of course. It is sad to see him turn bright red, hold his breath then let our a billowing shriek followed by real tears (they just started coming in!) but we know it is for his own good. With the modifications we made to his vaccination schedule, he will get these shots again at 4 and 6 months then these will be done before we start the next set. We were grateful he wasn't really affected this time around (except maybe the short bouts of sleep that night)....
